McInnis Canyons NCA has the second-largest concentration of natural arches in North America. The largest, of course, is just down river at Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. Both are located on the spectacular Colorado Plateau.
Internationally important fossils were discovered here during the past 130 years. The old Spanish Trail runs through here and pictographs and petroglyphs abound. It is a recreation destination for world-class mountain biking on the famous Kokopelli Trail. Twenty-five miles of the Colorado River winds its way through Horsethief and Ruby Canyons. Here, four endangered fish still survive – the Colorado Pikeminnow, Humpback Chub, Bonytail Chub and Razorback Sucker.
